it is possible to calculate the volume required for the expansion tank.

  • The calculation is valid in the hypothesis that the initial pressure (hydrostatic pressure) on the expansion vessel is not higher than the pre-charge pressure. In this regard, keep in mind that a 10 meter column of water exerts a pressure of 1 bar.
  • The difference in height (expressed in metres) is the difference between the position in which the safety valve is installed and the position of the vessel. Enter a positive difference in level if the valve is placed higher than the vessel, negative otherwise.
  • The calibration pressure of the safety valve, added to that due to any difference in level, must be lower than the maximum operating pressure of the vessel.
  • The calculation (regulatory reference EN 12828, VDI 4708) only provides an indication of the necessary volume of the expansion tank and must be verified by a specialized and authorized technician.

Sizing calculation for applications with water lifting systems

Knowing the following data:
  • Minimum pressure set for pump start (bar)
  • Maximum pressure set for pump shutdown (bar)
  • Pump water flow (litres/min)
  • Maximum pump starts per hour (n)

it is possible to calculate the volume required for the expansion tank.

  • The calculation is valid in the hypothesis that the initial pressure (hydrostatic pressure) on the expansion vessel is not higher than the pre-charge pressure. In this regard, keep in mind that a 10 meter column of water exerts a pressure of 1 bar.
